Videos or other media objects don’t play or work correctly because Microsoft Edge shows that you must enable JavaScript in Microsoft Edge. If that’s what you’re seeing now, here’s how to enable JavaScript in Microsoft Edge Windows 10.

Most websites contain JavaScript. JavaScript is a scripting program that allows specific function or features to be run on the webpage from a web browser such as Microsoft Edge. If JavaScript is disabled in your browser, the contents, functions or features that rely on JavaScript may not be available. Here’s how to enable JavaScript in Microsoft Edge Windows 10.

This guide will lead you to the GPE option to turn on or off the JavaScript in Microsoft Edge. So, if you are looking to disable JavaScript in Microsoft Edge, you can do so using the same guide below.

Why would JavaScript sometimes be disabled in Microsoft Edge?

Before we change anything, you have to know that JavaScript is most of the time enabled by default in all types of devices, be it a Windows 10 laptop, desktop or even a Windows Phone running Windows 10. It would be a rare occasion if the JavaScript was disabled without your consent.

It could be someone else who disabled JavaScript in Microsoft Edge manually on your Windows 10 and you didn’t know it. That would be fine as you can just turn it back on. But, if it’s an act of malware or virus that intends to disable JavaScript in Microsoft Edge, you have a problem.

Try to run a full scan on your PC with your antivirus software. Make sure your Windows 10 is protected by at least one malware protection software. Windows Defender would be good enough. Only then you can check on how to enable JavaScript in Microsoft Edge.

It’s also worth mentioning that JavaScript objects cannot be loaded on certain website does not mean that your Edge’s JavaScript is disabled. It could be the website’s problem itself which have bad scripts that Edge can’t run. So, try to play a video on YouTube or or do something on Facebook. If everything runs fine on other websites, it may indicates that the issue lies with the problem website itself.

Also, do not mistake JavaScript with Java. They are two unrelated products with just a common word in part of their names. If your issue lies with a Java object, try to update your Java here or via Control Panel > Java > Updates in Windows 10. It’s worth noting that Java is no longer being supported by most browsers, that includes Microsoft Edge. It’s likely that the problem is not Java related.

If your problem is not being able to play YouTube or Facebook videos, go to: YouTube or Facebook Video Won’t Play on Windows 10.
